Choosing the Right MERV for your AC and Furnace Air Filter
As important as the right size is the appropriate MERV for your health needs and HVAC equipment capacity. Unless you are dealing with serious health conditions, you need very basic information to choose the best MERV rating for your needs.
In short, the best MERV rating for houses or businesses is the combination of exposure to airborne pollutants/ health needs and your HVAC equipment's capacity (provided by the manufacturer).
Here is an easy chart with the airborne pollutants filtered by MERV 8, 11, and 13 air filters. If you need more in-depth information about what the best MERV rating is for your household or business, our MERV Rating Explained guide has all the answers.
The right time to replace your 8x8x1 air filter
Our air filters are built sturdily to last up to 3 months under normal environmental circumstances (no widefire, no high pollution, etc), in a household or commercial building without pets, smokers, or allergic people.
Installing your 8x8x1 air filter in 3 steps
Installing your air filter properly is essential to keep your HVAC equipment working, and it is very easy to do. Remove it from the package, point the arrow towards the wall or equipment unit, and set it in place. The right size should fit snugly in the furnace or AC slot.
Choosing the right air filter size
There are two simple ways to find out the right size of your air filter.
Look for the nominal/commercial size on the label.
If there are no labels, remove the air filter and measure its actual width x length x depth (as shown in the picture below). Then, choose the nominal size closest to it. If you can't find it, order a custom-sized air filter.
Popular sizes:
8x8x1 is not the right size for you? A perfect fit is essential for optimal filtration, so here are other popular sizes.
Noise Reduction: The 8x8x1 air filters are designed to lower airflow noise, resulting in a quieter HVAC operation. This feature enhances comfort levels, especially in areas where noise is a significant concern.
Superior Dust Collection: This filter has an excellent dust retention capacity, allowing it to trap a considerable amount of particles before it needs to be replaced. As a result, the filter lasts longer and helps maintain high efficiency.
Effortless Upkeep: Designed for convenience, this filter requires replacement every 3 months or based on guidelines. This makes it easy for homeowners to manage air quality, ensuring their homes remain comfortable with minimal effort.
Benefits Of 8x8x1 Air Filter
Improved Home Comfort: With enhanced air quality and improved temperature regulation, the 8x8x1 air filters contribute to a more comfortable living environment, ensuring comfort throughout the year.
Dust Control: By effectively removing dust particles from the air, the 8x8x1 air filter helps ensure that surfaces in your home remain less dusty, making regular cleaning less of a chore and keeping your living areas looking fresh.
Allergen Reduction: Designed to trap allergens such as pollen, pet dander, and mold spores, the 8x8x1 air filter plays a vital role in reducing airborne pollutants, thereby enhancing allergy relief and supporting better respiratory health for your family.
Key Factors To Consider
Be sure to keep these important factors in mind when picking an 8x8x1 air filter for your HVAC system:
Airflow Resistance: Although filters that effectively capture more particles perform better, they can also restrict airflow. It’s important to evaluate both the filter’s cleaning efficiency and its impact on airflow, ensuring that your HVAC system runs smoothly without being strained.
MERV And MPR Ratings: Choosing an 8x8x1 air filter is important, especially one with MPR ratings between 600 and 2200, along with an MERV rating from 8 to 13. The MPR rating reflects the filter’s ability to capture microscopic particles effectively.
Changing The Filter: Consider how regularly you would like to change your filter. While some filters necessitate monthly replacements, others can last for three months or more. Choose an 8x8x1 air filter that matches your maintenance needs and is easy to manage.
Maintenance Of 8x8x1 Air Filter
For optimal HVAC performance, make it a habit to inspect your 8x8x1 air filter each month and replace it every 1 to 3 months. Doing so will ensure proper filtration, maintain your home's ideal temperature and contribute to your overall comfort.
Precautions
Taking precautions before selecting an 8x8x1 air filter is essential to ensure it fits properly and operates efficiently with your HVAC system.
Installation Guidelines: To ensure that air filters operate effectively, proper installation is imperative. Filters installed incorrectly can allow unfiltered air escape, which reduces their overall efficiency. For optimal air quality and performance, always follow the installation instructions provided by the manufacturer.
Scheduled Maintenance: To maintain optimal performance from your air filters, routine maintenance is crucial. Develop a regular schedule for inspecting and replacing filters according to their usage and local air quality conditions. Regular maintenance reduces dust build-up and enhances airflow in your HVAC system.
Air Filter Thickness: The thickness of an air filter significantly affects its ability to trap particles and the efficiency of airflow through the system. Thicker filters may improve particle capture, but if they are not designed correctly for your HVAC setup, they can restrict airflow, leading to performance issues.

My filters fit perfect . Glad I found your company ! Thanks for having them ❤️
I’m really not sure what the problem is? This is the second order in a row that’s been completely damaged. I think this order there may be one usable filter out of six. I really am not interested in a refund. I would just like to get a good undamaged order of filters. This is the second time in a row. I understand it’s not your fault but maybe you could have a discussion with the shipping agent, thanks

I bought total 6 filters, 20x25x1. and install it for ceiling filter for my house's air-conditioning. At first, it bend after 3 days (shown in picture), I thought I install it wrong and call a air-condition technician to install for me. After few days later, the same thing happens again. so far, all 5 of 6 is gone bad in matter of 2 weeks. Last year, the same size filters from Home Depot never experience such situation. The problem with this filter is either the side support paper is too weak or the wire on the back can not sustain the paper form to keep it straight. It need to be improved for sure.
These filters were a fraction of the cost of other filters. They seem to be high quality and they shipped them to me exceptionally fast! I am very impressed!
GREAT price on filters. Buy more and save! If I bought from my HVAC tech, I'd literally would pay for just one, that I paid for 6 from this awesome company!
I got like 6 filters so I don't have to worry for 3 months! My little heater thing takes 2 air filters, so the bulk option was a life saver. Thanks guys!
I am an HVAC contractor and frequently run into odd floor filter sizes. This particular one was a 12x22x1 slot. Absolutely none of my local supply houses had this size, nor were able to get the filters for a reasonable price. With CFD, Both price and shipping were relatively cheap. I am very pleased with Custom Filters and have them on my go-to list now.
I updated a 16 by 25 by 1 filter frame to a 16 by 30 by 4 frame I designed myself by cutting off lip of 1 inch frame and building an aluminum frame 4 inches behind it and sealing it. It's an odd ball size but custom filter had this size and they are excellent filters. Will buy from them again. Heavy duty, air flow is perfect, couldn't ask for more.
